In a large pot of salted boiling water, add the whole wheat pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken sausages and cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned and heated through.
Add minced garlic and diced zucchini to the skillet, stirring to combine. Sauté for an additional 4-5 minutes until the zucchini is tender.
Stir in the halved cherry tomatoes and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the tomatoes start to soften. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet along with the reserved pasta water. Toss everything together until well combined. Allow to cook for 1-2 minutes for the flavors to meld.
Remove from heat and serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese if desired.

Feel free to adjust the spice level by adding more or less red pepper flakes.
