Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
Gradually blend in the dry ingredients from the small bowl, mixing until the dough comes together.
Add the milk to the dough a tablespoon at a time, mixing until smooth.
Roll the dough into balls about 1 inch in diameter and then roll each ball in extra sugar to coat.
Place the sugar-coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each.
Gently press down on each ball with the bottom of a glass to flatten slightly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are light golden brown.
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a minute before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
Serve on a decorative plate, and for an extra touch, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple icing made from powdered sugar and milk.
